The Metro Police Department ranking ceremony at Edgemead Community Hall.

Nearly 200 dedicated law enforcement officers have been promoted or appointed to senior roles within the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police Department, marking a significant milestone in the city's investment in public safety and operational leadership.

The sweeping advancement process includes the rollout of a brand-new rank of inspector, strategically designed to expand the department’s career progression framework and bolster its middle management capacity.

Under the newly streamlined advancement initiative, qualifying staff members who met strict operational criteria were either advanced directly or given the opportunity to apply for higher ranks. The rigorous process has resulted in 107 officers stepping into the role of sergeant, whilst 84 experienced members have taken on the newly minted rank of inspector.

This new management tier bridges the gap between frontline policing and senior command, providing seasoned sergeants a clear path to greater operational and supervisory responsibilities
