Democratic Alliance (DA) Leader and Cape Town Mayoral Candidate, Geordin Hill-Lewis, launched the party's Stronger Policing pledge in Delft, Cape Town, as part of his five-point pledge ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has promised to open a first-of-its-kind Metro Police Detective branch in Delft if the Democratic Alliance wins the November local elections.

The streets of Delft were blue on Wednesday morning as mayoral candidate Hill-Lewis launched the party’s Stronger Policing Pledge ahead of the local government elections.

Hill-Lewis said that the aim of the branch is to lead cases to successful convictions and keep criminals behind bars.

He explained: “It is the first and most important thing I will do if I have the chance to be the mayor of Cape Town again and that is to build our own City of Cape Town Metro Police Detective branch for the first time in South Africa.
