Democratic Alliance (DA) Leader and Cape Town Mayoral Candidate, Geordin Hill-Lewis, launched the party's Stronger Policing pledge in Delft, Cape Town, as part of his five-point pledge ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis' election pledge to establish a dedicated detective branch has been met with scepticism from crime activists who say the City must first demonstrate it can effectively deploy the policing resources it already controls before promising new crime-fighting units.
Hill-Lewis made the pledge during a campaign visit to Delft yesterday where he unveiled plans to establish a detective branch staffed by Metro Police investigators dedicated to gang violence, firearm and drug-related cases.
The proposed unit would recruit, train and deploy investigators responsible for building case dockets, gathering evidence and strengthening criminal prosecutions.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has pledged to create a dedicated detective branch.
