The Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg, has ruled against a woman seeking to reverse her guilty plea and reinstate her bail.

The Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg, has dismissed a review application from a woman seeking to reverse her guilty plea and reinstate her bail, following her admission to defrauding her employer of R1.4 million.

Janet Hilda Mncube, a former hotel employee, was charged with fraud after allegedly directing debtors who owed money to the hotel to pay funds into her niece’s bank account.

She was initially granted bail of R5,000 pending the finalisation of her trial.

Earlier this year, Mncube pleaded guilty to the fraud charge and was subsequently convicted by Magistrate K Page. It was also placed on record that she had no previous convictions.
