Chennai is set to get mini taluk offices at various locations, including Thiruvallikeni, Besant Nagar, Pallikaranai, Kodungaiyur, Saligramam and Korattur, for easier access to services relating to the Revenue Department.Following a meeting with senior officials of the State government this week, civic officials have begun identifying buildings to set up the offices at 12 localities in Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) zones — Kodungaiyur, Erukkancherry, Porur, Mogappair, Korattur, Saligramam, Neelangarai, Pallikaranai, Sholinganallur, Thiruvanmiyur/Besant Nagar, Thiruvallikeni, and Manapakkam. In Maduravoyal taluk, a mini taluk office will be set up in Porur, while Ambattur taluk is likely to have offices in Mogappair and Korattur.Alandur taluk is expected to get a mini taluk office in Manapakkam, six km away from the existing one. Mylapore Velachery, and Mambalam taluks will get an office each in Thiruvallikeni, Thiruvanmiyur, and Saligramam respectively. Sholinganallur taluk will get three offices in Neelangarai, Pallikaranai, and Sholinganallur.In Perambur taluk, officials are exploring the feasibility of setting up the offices in Kodungaiyur and Erukkancherry, as the existing taluk office is located far from residential areas. In Kodungaiyur, the mini taluk office is proposed to be set up on 191 Cross Street, Muthamizh Nagar, five km away from the existing office near Perambur Railway Station, and the other one on Sathyamurthy Nagar Main Road in Vyasarpadi, four km away.Ward 35 councillor S. Jeevan said the taluk office in Perambur was located outside the Perambur Assembly Constituency, which is represented by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.“The Perambur Taluk Office is actually located in the Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar Assembly constituency. Residents have urged the government to set up a mini taluk office in Mahakavi Barathi Nagar in ward 36. It is better to appoint additional government staff before setting up the offices,” he added.Ward 37 councillor Dilli Babu said the government should explore the feasibility of setting up a mini taluk office at the Mullai Nagar Community Hall.As the civic officials are exploring the feasibility of setting up a mini taluk office for Korattur in a GCC gym on Thulukanathamman Koil Street in Oragadam, which is four km away from the Ambattur Taluk Office, residents have demanded a mini taluk office between Padi and Korattur, following a public consultation.“Residents want a mini taluk office in Korattur or Padi. Many Korattur residents have been visiting Ambattur for services related to pension, and legal heir and community certificates,” ward 84 councillor J. John said.
