A total of 41 resolutions were passed in the monthly council meeting held at Tiruchengode Municipality in Namakkal district on Thursday (July 30, 2026).The council meeting was presided over by the Municipality chairman, S. Nalini, in the presence of Municipality Commissioner Kumaran. Addressing the gas pipeline laying works, DMK Councillor Ramesh (Ward 4) expressed that people living within a five-kilometre radius of the work are concerned that if any accidents occur during this period, their livelihoods will be affected. He called for a halt to the pipeline laying works.Ward 27 Councillor Annamalai (DMK) said that while college students being engaged in traffic regulating works, as volunteers, at Girivalam Path in Tiruchengode was appreciated, they fail to wear reflective jackets. “Recently, an accident was reported at the spot. It is advisable for police personnel to engage in these duties,” he added. Requesting for additional clasrrom facilities, Ward 5 DMK Councillor Raja said that the municipality’s middle school at Nesavalar Colony was upgraded to a high school. Since there is a lack of adequate classrooms, students are reading under the trees and on the walking path. Nominated person with disabilities member Bharath stated that during the DMK regime, the monthly assistance for the differently abled was provided at the right time, but now there is a delay in providing the assistance. “Steps should be taken to provide the financial assistance every month,” he demanded.Replying to the grievances of councillors, Ms. Nalini said that estimation has been provided for laying roads in all 33 wards, and after funds are received, roads will be laid. At the Nesavalar Colony High School, classrooms are being constructed at a cost of ₹3 crore, and soon, steps will be taken to construct additional classrooms under the MP fund. Likewise, for various projects, ₹10 crore-in funds have been sought from the government for multiple projects, the chairman added.Mr. Kumaran said that there are 55 conservancy vacancies in 33 wards. After these vacancies were filled, the solid waste management works will be in full swing, and four new vehicles will come up to collect garbage in the municipality, the Commissioner added.
