The invitation further extended a call to members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Shendam Branch, describing their attendance as “a mark of courtesy to grace the bar and to show solidarity to Her Lordship.”
A special sitting of the Court of Appeal reportedly scheduled to hold in the hometown of the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, has triggered concerns among legal practitioners and raised questions about judicial propriety, following a possible abuse of office and departure from established court tradition.
In a notice circulated by the Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Shendam Branch, T.T. Ayuba, Esq., lawyers were informed of an impromptu court sitting slated for Saturday, 13th June, 2025, at about 9am or soon thereafter, to be held at Ngoot Long (Ngoot Long Shendam), Ngwa Rina area of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State — identified as the hometown of the Court of Appeal President.
The notice read in part:“TAKE NOTICE that by the herein attached letter, there will be formal sitting of the Court of Appeal which was earlier on slated… however, we got an impromptu notice that the Court will be sitting tomorrow… The Court session will be presided over by Her Lordship, Monica Dongban Memsem (President Court of Appeal)… held at Ngwa Rina (Ngoot Long Shendam Local Government Council)… Matters are listed on the cause list for determination.”
