“This grief is shared across the city,” Mayor Olivia Chow said yesterday in a condolence message marking the death of 43-year-old Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto. The officer, a father of two and an 18-year veteran of the force, was shot dead while his Emergency Task Force team was executing a “high-risk takedown” warrant near Black Creek Rd. and Trethewey Dr. He and his brothers were former professional hockey players and well-known youth coaches in the GTA, and as his body travelled to the coroner’s office through roads lined with saluting police in uniform, tributes from fellow officers, community members and politicians poured in. More on Pinizzotto, the shooting and the investigation below.
