The third edition of the Ocean Festival Lifesaving Carnival took place at Scottburgh Main Beach in May..
LIFESAVERS from across the world are preparing for one of the sport’s biggest events, which will be held in South Africa for the first time in three decades.
The World Lifesaving Championships run from 25 November to 13 December in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), bringing together athletes from across the globe where they’ll be judged on their level of endurance, rescue skill and surf discipline.
For Durban Surf Lifesaving Club, which celebrates its 99th anniversary this year, the event presents a rare opportunity; and a costly one.
The club is planning to send a team of junior and senior lifeguards to compete, and is turning to its Durban residents and businesses to help make that possible.
