Police using a sniffer dog to search for explosives on the integrated court complex premises in Erode on Friday.

Police on Friday (June 12) carried out an intensive search at the Integrated Court Complex here after an anonymous email claimed that a bomb had been planted on the premises. The threat turned out to be a hoax.The court complex at Sampath Nagar houses the Principal District Court, criminal courts, the Fast Track Mahila Court dealing with cases involving crimes against women, and the Mediation and Conciliation Centre. Hundreds of litigants, advocates, judges and members of the public visit the complex every day.According to police sources, court proceedings were under way when the threat email was received on the official email account of the court complex. Court officials immediately alerted the police.A police team, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and a sniffer dog squad, rushed to the premises and carried out a thorough search of the court buildings, parking areas, the mediation centre and surrounding locations.Court proceedings were temporarily suspended and access to the complex was restricted during the search. Police said no explosive material was found.Personnel of the Cyber Crime Wing have been tasked with tracing the origin of the email and identifying the person responsible for sending it.
