US President Donald Trump has claimed that Washington has “ended the war” with Iran after announcing what he described as a “very strong memorandum of understanding.” Speaking at a telerally, Trump said the two sides had agreed on a framework focused on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, according to a CNN report on Friday.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. “I don’t know if you heard, but we ended the war with Iran today,” he said. “They have agreed never to have a nuclear weapon, something that we insisted on.” However, Iranian officials have not confirmed any such deal. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said reports of a finalized agreement were “merely speculation,” adding that no final decision had been taken in Tehran. He also said that while negotiations had advanced, “a large portion of the text had already been finalized,” but positions continued to shift. Earlier in the day, Trump said he had cancelled planned strikes on Iran, claiming that “final points” of an agreement had been approved at the highest level and that further military action was no longer necessary for now. The announcement came after days of mixed messaging from Trump, including earlier remarks suggesting Washington could seize Iran’s strategic Kharg Island – the country’s main oil export hub handling roughly 90% of crude shipments – and other energy infrastructure, as part of efforts to pressure Tehran during stalled negotiations.
