Speaking of comebacks: Ken tells us about Trey Mancini’s return, and the Dodgers and Pirates have traded late breakouts this week. I’m Levi Weaver — welcome to The Windup!History, Again: Eldridge’s historic grand slamWhat a week for the kids. A day after White Sox outfielder Braden Montgomery, 23, became the fifth player in history to hit a walk-off home run in his MLB debut, Giants first baseman Bryce Eldridge, 21, became the youngest player ever to hit a walk-off grand slam, breaking a record set by none other than Roberto Clemente. But there was more to it than just that …

The slam capped a huge comeback. The Giants trailed the Nats 9-1 in the eighth inning and 10-6 in the ninth. If you’re doing the math, that’s back-to-back five-run innings to win the game 11-10.

It was the 33rd known instance of an “ultimate grand slam” — a walk-off when the team was trailing by three runs — since 1925. While we’re name-checking legends, the first one of these we know about was hit by Babe Ruth.
