During the protest, demonstrators accused individuals linked to NANS of attacking protesters and journalists, damaging vehicles and threatening participants with dangerous weapons.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has come under fresh criticism after its national president, Akinteye Babatunde, appointed Yusuf Decimal, a man accused of participating in the violent disruption of protesters in Oyo State, as Chairman of Security Affairs of the student body.

A source familiar with the development told SaharaReporters that the appointment has sparked outrage among activists and students who had accused Decimal of involvement in attacks on demonstrators during a recent protest against insecurity in Oyo State.

“The man Yusuf Decimal that launched attack on Revolution protesters in Oyo has just been given an appointment by the NANS national president as the chairman of security affairs in NANS,” the source said.

The appointment was publicly celebrated by NANS member, Anzaku Shedrack, in a Facebook post seen by SaharaReporters.
