The headmistress of a government higher secondary school in the district has been placed under suspension following several charges against her.Sources in the Department of School Education said the teachers of SRM Government Higher Secondary School, Shencottai were reportedly made to contribute ₹100 each to meet the wages of the temporary sanitary worker of the school after the regular worker retired from service.When the District Educational Officer recently visited the school around 9 a.m., headmistress of the school Jeeva and a few more teachers came late, who were asked to submit explanation for being late to the school. As the headmistress gave “unacceptable reasons” for being late and the contributions collected from the teachers for giving the wages of the sanitary worker, the DEO submitted a report in this connection with Chief Educational Officer Renuka.Based on these charges, Jeeva was placed under suspension, the sources said.“The second senior-most teacher has been made in-charge headmistress of the school now,” said the sources.
