An Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation camp will be conducted across Coimbatore district on June 28, 2026, as part of the government’s continued efforts to ensure complete eradication of polio.According to a press release from the district administration, around 2.97 lakh children below the age of five years have been targeted for immunisation this year. During the previous campaign, polio drops were administered to 3.01 lakh children.A total of 1,615 pulse polio booths have been established across the district, including 1,124 in rural areas and 491 in urban areas. In addition, 32 special booths and 22 mobile teams have been deployed at bus stands, railway stations, airport and other public places to reach children who may otherwise be missed.The required stock of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) has already been supplied to all Primary Health Centres and is ready for distribution. As many as 6,345 personnel, including officials from the Public Health Department, Anganwadi workers, staff from various government departments, non-government organisations and members of Rotaru Clubs, will be involved in the campaign. More than 100 vehicles have been deployed to support the immunisation drive.Officials stated that the vaccine provided under the programme is safe, of high quality and approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO).District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar has appealed to parents to ensure that all children below five years of age receives the polio drops on June 28, irrespective of their previous immunisation status.
