A delegation from China’s Shandong Province—the birthplace of Confucius—visited the offices of Naftemporiki as part of efforts to deepen cooperation between the media sectors of Greece and China.The Chinese delegation was led by Sun Wenli, Director General of the Publicity Department of Shandong Province, and Liang Jiawei, President of the Dazhong News Group, a media organisation that operates nine newspapers and multiple news websites and employs approximately 5,000 people.During the visit, Naftemporiki website Director Michalis Psylos signed a memorandum of cooperation with Liang Jiawei, head of the Dazhong News Group.“The two sides are committed to promoting economic and trade cooperation as well as cultural exchanges between China and Greece through the power of the media. They will explore the exchange of news reporting related to China and Greece, thereby enhancing mutual understanding,” the memorandum stated.Located on China’s eastern coast, Shandong covers an area of 158,000 square kilometres and is home to around 100 million people. With a gross domestic product of approximately 1.5 trillion dollars, it is China’s third-largest provincial economy.Shandong is a major industrial and agricultural powerhouse, known for its strong manufacturing sector, extensive port infrastructure and deep integration into global trade networks. Its advanced marine economy accounts for roughly one-fifth of China’s total marine output, while the province is also the country’s leading producer of grain, cotton, peanuts and seafood.Rich in natural resources, Shandong is home to the vast Shengli oilfield. Cooperation between Dazhong News Group and Naftemporiki could help bring business initiatives from the two countries closer together and further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, Liang Jiawei noted.On his part, Michalis Psilos noted that many Greek companies view China’s vast market as a key destination for expanding their export activities.A “school” for robotsShandong boasts a diversified industrial base that includes globally recognised brands such as Haier, Hisense and Tsingtao Brewery.The province has invested heavily in specialised artificial intelligence models across industrial sectors and is emerging as a leader in robotics and electric vehicle manufacturing.Shandong is also home to a pioneering robotics training centre in the city of Jinan, where dozens of humanoid robots are “trained” daily by replicating human movements and activities.
