Manamela confirms end of pre-2009 qualifications era, warns against relying on unofficial sources.
South Africa’s post-school education and training system is undergoing a major restructuring, with over 1 400 legacy qualifications reaching the end of their registration period as government pushes ahead with a broad transition to occupational-based learning.
Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela confirmed during a media briefing on Wednesday that 1,475 pre-2009 qualifications have reached their registration end date as part of the modernisation of the National Qualifications Framework.
“The transition from legacy qualifications to occupational qualifications represents one of the most significant reforms in South Africa’s post-school education and training landscape,” Manamela said.
He stressed that the move does not invalidate existing qualifications or diminish the value of completed studies.
