Springbok attack coach Tony Brown will spend two more seasons with the world champions before heading to the All Blacks in 2028.

In just over a week, the international rugby season will start for the Springboks, a day after the Bulls take on Leinster in the United Rugby Championship (URC) final in Dublin.

Following a massive performance against the Glasgow Warriors to book their place in a fourth URC Grand Final, all eyes will be on the Pretoria side as they bid for their first crown at Croke Park in a repeat of last year’s final clash.

In the latest episode of The Last Word on Rugby, host Leighton Koopman sits down with rugby analysts John Goliath and Mike Greenaway to unpack a whirlwind 72 hours in South African rugby. Between a dramatic URC semi-final weekend and massive Springbok squad announcements, there is plenty of fuel for debate.

But the biggest talking point was probably New Zealand Rugby’s announcement that they have signed Bok attack coach Tony Brown from after the 2027 Rugby World Cup. The timing of the news is questionable, especially as the world champions prepare to start their 2026 international season, which includes the Greatest Rivalry tour against the All Blacks.
