The State Government has resolved to further intensify its efforts to restore lakes, tanks, parks and other public spaces, which have been encroached by vested interests.Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asserted that the Government is committed to protect these public assets and bring out those who were behind the encroachments. “Measures to clear encroachment of public assets will further intensify. We are committed to revive the State Capital’s reputation as city of lakes and rocks,” he said. The Chief Minister lamented how rains on Tuesday wreaked havoc in the twin cities resulting in suffering to the people and said: “Water which should be in lakes, tanks, nalas and other water bodies is overflowing because of the encroachments by vested interests.” The State Government has therefore decided to revive the legacy of the state capital as city of lakes and was firmly acting against those guilty of encroachments.Citing the examples of lakes/tanks that had been revived over the past few months, he said the previous Government remained a mute spectator to the encroachment of 15 acres of Bathukammakunta in the city centre as the encroachers showered flowers on former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao using a helicopter. “Shall we allow this to happen?” he asked the people at a public meeting on Wednesday.Mr. Revanth Reddy addressing the people after inaugurating the Future City Development Authority office in the Bharat Future City and launched its logo and website. The FCDA was constructed in a short span of 150 days and the building had already received Indian Green Business Council’s certification as an environmentally sustainable building. The Chief Minister asserted that the future city would complement the three cities, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad and it would be developed on international standards. The Government would invite global majors to make investments in it. “Bharat Future City will be the key contributor to the Government’s ambition of making the State a US $ 1 trillion economy by 2034,” he said. He directed the officials concerned to speed up works pertaining to the project aimed at projecting the State as a global investment destination that would in turn generate employment to locals. He recalled how the attempts of the earlier Governments to promote IT were opposed and said the committed effort by those Governments ensured that the city was placed in the global map.“There will be opponents like Sukracharya (KCR) who is resting in the farm house and unleashed two demons Maricha and Subahu to oppose the projects,” he said taking a jibe at the main opposition party.Responding to claims that the BRS would scrap the Future City project once it returns to power, he likened the BRS president to the scrapped ₹1,000 note and said it was of no use. “Moreover, people will teach a fitting lesson to those opposing the project and ensure that the BRS will not even be given the status of the opposition party,” he said.Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka criticised the previous Government for trying to set up a highly polluting pharma city in the area and said the Congress Government was committed to promote green pharma and green energy along with other infrastructure in the Bharat Future City. Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said unlike the previous Government which denied proper compensation to those losing land for the new city, the Congress Government had compensated them satisfactorily.
