Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed the officials concerned to take steps to secure the State’s share of waters in Godavari river.The Chief Minister opined that the State could face problems if the upper riparian States adhered to the principle of releasing water from projects only after their projects were filled. With the upper riparian States Maharashtra and Karnataka too staring at the prospect of low monsoon rains, officials should hold discussions with the officials concerned in these States and prepare an action plan to secure water on pro rata basis to meet the requirements of the State.Mr. Revanth Reddy convened a meeting of the Irrigation department officials on Monday in the light of the below normal rainfall forecast during the monsoon season under the impact of El Nino. He said Maharashtra was utilising 100% of Koyna dam water for hydro electric power generation. Accordingly, the State could negotiate with the Maharashtra government for release of water with an assurance that equal amount of power would be supplied from Telangana. He directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao to hold discussions with the neighbouring State in this regard. Huge quantities of water from Godavari was flowing waste into the sea every year with flood discharge taking place in a short period. Officials concerned should plan diversion of flood water from Godavari and Pranahita in advance so that the requirements of the State could be met.At the same time, Energy department officials were directed to prepare a comprehensive report on securing Telangana’s share from the hydel generation being undertaken at Sileru and Tungabhadra dams by the neighbouring States.The Chief Minister directed the officials to take up repairs to project gates on a war footing. He enquired with the officials about the status of maintenance of major dams in the State recalling the problems faced in the past at Kaddam project. The government had already released ₹300 crore for repairs and maintenance of project gates and directed the officials concerned to release additional funds as and when required. He warned officials of stringent action if the State faced problems at major projects during the monsoon.Educate farmers about crop diversificationMr. Revanth Reddy exhorted Agriculture department officials to plan cropping patterns based on the estimations made by the weather department. Awareness camps should be conducted for farmers to educate them about crop diversification and opting for low water intensity crops. Officials could utilise the video prepared utilising artificial intelligence in this regard and steps should be taken to relay the awareness programmes through television channels.He wanted officials to take adequate precautions to ensure supply of seed and fertilisers assuring that he would address a letter to the Central government seeking allocation of entire urea/fertilisers manufactured by Ramagundam fertilisers unit to the State.He enquired about the implementation of assurances given during the field level inspection of Kamareddy, Khammam and Warangal districts in the flood season last year. He asked the officials concerned to submit a comprehensive report on the assurances given to people and the status of their implementation. Senior officials were directed to initiate action against those found guilty of negligence in fulfilling the assurances.Directing the officials concerned to respond promptly at the time of calamities, he wanted them to register FIRs in the event of loss of lives, properties and cattle besides taking steps to provide compensation to the affected families. He suggested that officials concerned could utilise ₹1,000 crore funds available with the disaster response wing for taking up repairs to roads and bridges that suffered damages.Take precautions in CUREMr. Revanth Reddy directed the officials to take steps to ensure that there was no water logging during monsoon in the three municipal corporations under the purview of the CURE region. Steps should be taken to construct water harvesting wells in the 141 areas identified for water logging. Officials informed the Chief Minister that works on 11 wells had been completed and were in different stages in remaining areas. The Chief Minister directed senior official Jayesh Ranjan to conduct reviews of the situation from time to time and asked the commissioners of the corporations and three police commissioners to take up works with utmost coordination.Steps to ensure drinking waterThe Chief Minister said that although a deficient monsoon was forecast, steps should be taken to ensure that there was no shortage of drinking water across the State, including the State Capital. Officials informed him that there was no cause of concern for drinking water and power supply as of now. Mr. Revanth Reddy asked them to prepare action plans to ensure supply of drinking water, power and water required by the industry in line with the emerging situation and directed the Energy department to mobilise the required equipment and material in advance to meet any situation.
