The city continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions on Wednesday, with temperatures once again crossing the 40°C mark in several areas, causing widespread discomfort.However, conditions changed in the evening bringing much-needed relief. Thick clouds gathered over the city and surrounding areas, followed by moderate drizzle and strong winds in several outskirts. Hailstorms were reported in parts of Pendurthi. A large number of people thronged the Beach Road in the evening to enjoy the cool breeze.Based on weather observations, Simhachalam was among the hottest locations in Vizag district, recording a maximum temperature of 41.6°C around 1 p.m. Anandapuram registered 40.9°C, while Gajuwaka recorded 40.4° C. Maharanipeta, located closer to the coast, saw temperatures touch 39° C. Several other localities, including Arilova and Gangavaram, witnessed temperatures exceeding 38° Celsius.The soaring temperatures, coupled with high humidity levels, made conditions extremely uncomfortable. Commuters, daily wage workers, street vendors and those travelling during the afternoon hours faced significant hardships as hot winds and humid conditions prevailed across the city. Many residents avoided venturing out, while others covered their faces with scarves and cloth to protect themselves from the scorching heat.Meanwhile, neighbouring Anakapalli district also experienced heatwave like conditions. Sabbavaram recorded a blistering 42.63°C, while parts of Kasimkota, Narsipatnam, Koduru, S Rayavaram and several other mandals registered temperatures ranging between 41°C and 42°C.Meanwhile, parents have expressed concern over the reopening of schools, amid the continuing heatwave conditions continuing across north coastal Andhra Pradesh during the daytime. Many parents have urged the government to postpone the reopening of educational institutions.
