MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered the law enforcement agency to conduct its own investigation into the drowning incident in which Ateneo de Manila University student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili died.

“As to the negligence of anybody or liability of whoever, we will know that once the investigation is completed,” PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co told reporters in a press briefing in Camp Crame.

“The Chief PNP has ordered a more thorough investigation,” he added. “There will be no cover-up. Everything will be transparent.”
