The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (SIPCOT), a State-owned Corporation, has sent a proposal to the State government to establish an eco-tourism park at Top Sengattupatti on Pachamalai hills in the Eastern Ghats.It is one of the first eco-tourism parks proposed by the SIPCOT in the State. It has so far been concentrating on establishing industrial parks across the State to enable industrialists and entrepreneurs to get plots on a long-term lease for setting up industries. It has now forayed into the concept of establishing tourism parks in different parts of the State to lease out plots for the players, who are in the hospitality industry.Sources told The Hindu that the eco-tourism park would have an extent of 3.47 acres at Top Sengattupatti. The SIPCOT had chosen the piece of land in coordination with the Tourism Department and Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. SIPCOT had identified lands in a few other parts of the State with the aim of establishing tourism parks. After completing the field inspection, the Tiruchi Collector had sent the proposal to the State government. It was under the consideration of the Commissioner of Land Administration (CLA) in Chennai.Sources added that after the approval of CLA, a Government Order would be issued for establishing the park. Issuance of G.O. was expected shortly. The process of land acquisition would be started subsequently. Once the established land was brought under the control of SIPCOT, it would begin the process of launching the park. It would ultimately enable the interested players to look for the site on a long-term lease for establishing a hill resort or hotel.Pachamalai hills, low range mountains on the eastern ghats, has the potential to attract tourists for a short stay. If all necessary infrastructure were provided, Pachamalai could attract more tourists, the sources said and added that a few players in the hospitality industry had evinced interest to look for lands at the proposed tourism park at Top Sengattupatti.
