The State Industrial Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) has proposed to set up one more industrial park at Maravanur near Manapparai on Tiruchi-Dindigul Highway. It will come near the existing industrial park promoted by the State Industrial Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu at Kannudaiyanpatti, K. Periyapatti, and Chathirapatti. Aimed at providing land at an affordable long-term lease basis, the State government came up with a GO about 13 years ago on setting up of industrial park in Tiruchi district. It subsequently acquired 1,097 acres of land at Kannudaiyanpatti, K. Periyapatti, and Chathirapatti near Manapparai. Basic infrastructure and all the needed amenities such as road, electricity, and drinking water were subsequently created after earmarking sites for different industrial categories. The SIPCOT began issuing applications for allotment of land to the entrepreneurs in 2021. Of 1,097 acres, 396 acres have been developed. Of the total available land, it earmarked 131.92 acres to Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) and the remaining land was being allocated to the entrepreneurs.SIPCOT, according to sources, has so far allotted land to 30 industrial units on a 99-year lease. Though the response from the industries, seeking allotment of sites, was termed as sluggish initially, the industrial park has become busy with the establishment of industries. It has only 380 acres of land at the Kannudayanpatti park. Going by the response, the SIPCOT officials expect that it will be sold out soon. The proposed new industrial park will come up very close to the existing park. Land to an extent of 288 acres have been identified for the new park.A senior official told The Hindu that a survey of the identified lands belonging to various persons had been completed. Tiruchi Collector had visited the site to take stock of the location and other aspects of the proposed park. The proposal had been sent to the State government. It would study various aspects of it. The process of land acquisition would be started after the approval. Published - June 04, 2026 05:48 pm IST
