The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of four men by the police during an operation in Retirement, St James, on Wednesday morning.Contacted by The Gleaner, INDECOM confirmed that it was notified of the incident and has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.Preliminary reports indicate that members of the security forces were conducting an operation in the community in search of men believed to be connected to a recent murder in the area.During the operation, the police reportedly came under attack, leading to an exchange of gunfire.Four men were subsequently shot and killed.The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.The incident follows the fatal shooting of seven men across three parishes on Tuesday, bringing the number of people killed in fatal shootings to 11 in less than 24 hours.According to INDECOM, 143 people had been killed in fatal shootings involving members of the security forces up to June 9 this year.INDECOM investigators are expected to process the scene, collect statements, and examine other evidence as part of their probe into Wednesday’s incident.Both the police and INDECOM are continuing their investigations.- Andre WilliamsFollow The Gleaner on X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram @JamaicaGleaner and on Facebook @GleanerJamaica.
