The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has confirmed that no body-worn cameras were used by police officers involved in five fatal shooting incidents across four parishes that left 11 men dead within a 24-hour period. The commission said the incidents included two quadruple fatal shootings and three single fatal shootings, and resulted in deaths in St James, St Catherine, Clarendon and St Andrew.INDECOM also identified three of the four men killed during Wednesday’s police operation in Retirement, St James, naming them as 55-year-old Bryan Fairclough, 27-year-old Brian Fairclough, and 26-year-old Jahmar Ashman. The fourth victim remains unidentified, with investigators appealing for public assistance to confirm his identity. The commission said it was notified of the five separate incidents within the same 24-hour period, which have pushed the total number of people killed in fatal shootings involving the security forces to 14 for June so far, and 153 year-to-date.It noted that six of the seven men killed in other incidents on June 9 across St Catherine, Clarendon and St Andrew are still to be officially identified.INDECOM is urging relatives, witnesses, and members of the public with information, photographs, or video footage to come forward to assist with its investigations. “Independent witness accounts and visual evidence remain critical to ensuring a thorough, impartial and comprehensive investigation,” the state oversight body said. The commission added that seven firearms were reportedly recovered across the five scenes. Follow The Gleaner on X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram @JamaicaGleaner and on Facebook @GleanerJamaica.
