South African motorists could soon see changes to how vehicle licence discs are used, as the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) moves toward a discless system based on electronic verification.
This was confirmed by Simon Zwane, spokesperson for the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), who said the change forms part of a broader policy direction adopted by the organisation.
He said physical licence discs will continue to be used for now, until detailed implementation plans and official rollout announcements are made.
"This is a policy direction that the RTMC has adopted. Physical [licence discs] will continue until detailed announcements are made. Fraud and corruption investigations will continue," Zwane told IOL.
