The multinational funeral company, Icebolethu Group has rejected claims it delivered a coffin that contained bricks during the funeral of the leader of the Christian Catholic Apostolic Holy Spirit Church in Zion leader, President Thamsanqa Elijah Nkonyane, in Osizweni, Newcastle, last weekend.
Icebolethu Group has broken its silence on the controversy surrounding the funeral of Christian Catholic Apostolic Holy Spirit Church in Zion leader, President Thamsanqa Elijah Nkonyane, dismissing claims that the burial was mishandled and insisting that all procedures were conducted lawfully and in accordance with the family's wishes.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the funeral services company said it had taken note of widespread public debate and concern surrounding the burial but maintained that it complied with all legal requirements and industry regulations throughout the process.
Nkonyane's funeral attracted thousands of mourners including church leaders like Bishop Thabani Mkhize, the spiritual leader and founder of the Mpumalanga-anchored Mount Zion Christian Centre, Archbishop Vusi Gama of the Trust In Christ Ministries and political heavyweights like Dr Zweli Mkhize. The Zulu monarch King Misuzulu kaZwelithini was among many who sent their message of condolences to the Nkonyanes and the church.
