Manchester United has told goalkeeper Andre Onana that he is free to find a new club, a decisive signal that the £43.8 million investment from 2023 has run its course. The Cameroonian shot-stopper, currently on loan at Trabzonspor, is still expected to report for pre-season training in July, creating the kind of awkward professional limbo that makes workplace small talk even more painful than usual.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 with the mandate to stabilize a defense that had been leaking goals like a sieve in a rainstorm. He has since racked up over 100 appearances for the club.
From San Siro to the exit door
Onana arrived at Old Trafford with a Champions League finalist pedigree, having helped Inter reach the final in 2023 before United swooped in with an initial fee of £43.8 million.
Onana was loaned to Turkish club Trabzonspor on September 11, 2025. No buy option or loan fee was reported in connection with the arrangement.
