Gokhan Taner/Middle East Images/AFP via Getty ImagesJune 25, 2026 1:34 pm EDT Updated Manchester United are close to agreeing goalkeeper Andre Onana’s return to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan.United, Trabzonspor and the 30-year-old’s representatives are finalising the details on what is set to be a straight loan, without any option to buy.Onana was expected to return to Carrington for pre-season training after making 33 appearances on loan at the Turkish Super Lig club last season, as well as winning the Turkish Cup.Trabzonspor have been eager to extend the Cameroon international’s stay, however, with no prospect of him playing regularly again at United.Onana joined United from Inter Milan in July 2023 for an initial €51million (£43.9m, $57.4m) plus €4m in add-ons, replacing David de Gea as United’s No 1.The former Ajax goalkeeper started 72 of United’s 76 Premier League matches across his first two campaigns at the club, but lost his place at the start of this season under former head coach Ruben Amorim.United signed goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day for an initial fee of €21m plus €4m in add-ons, leaving Onana surplus to requirements.The Cameroonian, whose United contract runs until 2028, has made 102 appearances for the Old Trafford club, keeping 24 clean sheets.United are looking to refresh their goalkeeping department this summer, with back-up Altay Bayindir also attracting interest in his native Turkey.Radek Vitek, 22, could also depart either permanently or on loan in search of regular playing time after impressing on loan at Championship club Bristol City.
