Nwapa alleged that government officials are attempting to frame the incident in religious terms instead of focusing on rescuing the victims.

Human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has accused the Governor Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State government of using the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the state to engage in divisive propaganda.

Nwapa alleged that government officials are attempting to frame the incident in religious terms instead of focusing on rescuing the victims.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Nwapa criticised reports that government officials publicly disclosed alleged demands made by the kidnappers, including a purported demand for a N1billion ransom and the introduction of Sharia law in Oyo State, a claim the victims have debunked.

According to him, such disclosures are inappropriate while efforts to secure the release of abducted persons are ongoing.
