The victims were kidnapped from Community High School, L.A. Primary School (Esiele), and Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota) in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has described the release of pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in Oyo State after spending 55 days in captivity as both a moment of relief and a damning indictment of Nigeria's worsening security crisis.
Reacting to the release of the abducted schoolchildren and their teachers, Nwapa welcomed the safe return of the victims but argued that their prolonged captivity exposed what he called a "monumental failure of governance" and the inability of authorities at all levels to fulfil their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
The victims were kidnapped from Community High School, L.A. Primary School (Esiele), and Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota) in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
"I warmly welcome the safe return of the pupils and teachers abducted from Community High School, L.A. Primary School (Esiele), and Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota) in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 55 harrowing days in captivity," Nwapa said.
