Greek and Cypriot authorities are piecing together the structure of an active Hamas network operating across Greece, Cyprus and Malaysia, as investigators believe a 37-year-old Palestinian arrested Saturday in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, may have had an accomplice.
The suspicion stems from the Cyprus cell’s composition of four members – suggesting the Greece-based suspect also did not act alone.
The arrested man allegedly confessed to membership in the organization and to planning a terrorist attack on Greek soil.
A 38-year-old described as the network’s organizer, arrested at Governor’s Beach near Limassol, reportedly provided funding for explosive materials – precursors of which were found at his rented property – and organized a training trip to Kuala Lumpur in August 2025. Investigators believe stopovers, possibly in Germany, were used to meet other operatives.
