Fears that attack was planned on a cruise ship

A 37-year-old Palestinian with links to Hamas was brought before a Greek prosecutor on Monday after he and four other people were arrested in Cyprus on suspicion of preparing a bomb attack targeting Israeli interests.

The case has raised concerns in Athens and Nicosia as the summer holiday season, which is crucial for tourism, has begun.

The Palestinian was arrested on 6 June on the island of Crete, and there are fears that he was planning to attack a cruise ship linked to Israeli interests that is expected to arrive on the island on Tuesday.

He admitted that he was a member of Hamas, which recruited him while he was living in Gaza with his wife and two children.
