Casemiro had announced in January he would be departing United at the end of the season. The Athletic reported in March that Sancho’s former club Borussia Dortmund would be interested in resigning the winger, and he would be open to a return to Germany.

Sancho spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Aston Villa, winning the Europa League but only scoring once in all competitions. The Athletic reported this month he would not stay at Villa beyond his loan spell. The former England international also struggled to make a significant impact in his previous season on loan at Chelsea, registering three goals in 31 league appearances.Sancho made 83 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists, but fell out of favour with then-head coach Erik ten Hag at the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign, before returning to Dortmund for a six-month period in January of that season.During that period he was part of the side’s unlikely run to the 2024 Champions League final, which he started as they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid at Wembley. The winger has not featured for England since World Cup qualification in 2021.Jun 10, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
