Zulu Traditional Prime Minister Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi has received backlash for his comments on illegal immigration
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi's criticism of the widespread protests against illegal immigration has backfired badly as people continue to attack him on social media.
Introducing inkosi Malusi Zondi to the public as head of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s Economy and Cultural Envoy last week, Buthelezi in his capacity as the king’s Traditional Prime Minister criticised the leaders of the protests which are known Zulu warriors (amabutho), Nkosikhona Phakelumthakathi Ndabandaba and former Ukhozi FM radio personality.
Without mentioning them by their names, Buthelezi called out the two men for mobilising hostel amabutho to protest without the command of the king who is their commander-in-chief. He said there is no one who has a right to rally amabutho without the permission of the king, labeling Ndabandaba and Mchunu as opportunists.
Although the two have never said they lead these protests in their capacity as amabutho, they are always seen leading protests wearing Zulu traditional regalia and armed with shields and sticks. By virtue of his position as the king’s Traditional Prime Minister, Buthelezi may be regarded as a second-in-command of the Zulu army.
