The GPD Box is a mini PC with an Intel Panther Lake processor and two options for delivering discrete-class graphics performance. One model has an MCIO 8i port that provides a high-speed PCIe 5.0 x8 connection for external graphics docks like the GPD G2, while another model lacks the MCIO 8i port, but features integrated graphics that offer the kind of performance you’d expect from an entry-level discrete GPU.First announced in April, the GPD Box is scheduled to go up for pre-order through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign that starts on June 15. Retail prices are expected to start at around $1846, but GPD says backers of the crowdfunding campaign will be able to save about 20 percent of the retail prices. That means an entry-level model with an Intel Core Ultra 356H processor, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an MCIO 8i port will start at $1452 during crowdfunding, while a model with a Core Ultra x7 358H processor featuring Intel Arc B390 integrated graphics will start at $1534. Just keep in mind that there’s no MCIO 8i port on that model. Both versions feature 15-80 watt, 16-core processors, but the Core Ultra 7 356H processor has a 4-core iGPU and support for up to 100 TOPS of total on-device AI processing performance (when you combine the CPU, GPU, and NPU). The Core Ultra x7 358H, meanwhile, has a 12-core GPU and up to 180 TOPS of AI performance. Why not include the MCIO 8i functionality on both models? Most likely because there aren’t enough PCIe lanes on models with higher-performance integrated graphics. Both versions of the GPD Box support up to 64GB of total LPDDR5x-8533 onboard memory and feature two M.2 slots for storage: one with support for PCIe 5.0 x4 speeds, and a second that tops out at PCIe 4.0 x4.And while only one model has an MCIO 8i connector, both have:2 x USB4v2 Type-C (80 Gbps)4 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)1 x DisplayPort 2.11 x HDMI 2.12 x 2.5 GbE LAN1 x 3.5mm audioThere’s also support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, and unusually the GPD Box also has built-in 2W stereo speakers as well as an integrated microphone. The system measures 175 x 134 x 39.5mm (6.89″ x 5.28″ x 1.56″).GPD is also launching a crowdfunding campaign for the GPD G2 graphics dock on May 15. It has a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot (which only supports 8 lanes), an MCIO 8i connector, USB4v2 port, and 800W integrated power supply. It’s going for $385 during crowdfunding, marked down from a $459 retail price.Backers who opt for a bundle can reserve a BOX 356H + GPD G2 dock for $1837 during crowdfunding, or a BOX 358H + G2 bundle for $1919. While that latter model doesn’t have a an MCIO 8i connector for PCIe 5.0 x8 speeds, it should support PCIe 4.0 x4 connections using the USB4v2 port.via @softwincn
