When Intel introduced its Core Ultra Series 3 “Panther Lake” mobile chips earlier this year, the company put a lot of emphasis on models with Intel Arc-branded integrated graphics with up to a 12 core iGPU that delivers the kind of performance you’d normally associate with an entry-level discrete GPU.So far most of the PCs to use that chip have been laptops or mini PCs. But now Intel is introducing a new line of Intel Arc G-Series chips that bring Panther Lake graphics to handheld gaming PCs like the new Acer Predator Atlas 8, MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, and ONEXPLAYER 3.Intel’s initial announcement is a bit light on details, but it looks like there will be at least two Arc G-Series chips at launch:Intel Arc G3 with 10-core Intel Arc B370 graphicsIntel Arc G3 Extreme with 12-core Intel Arc B390 graphicsBoth chips feature 2 Performance CPU cores, 8 Efficiency cores, and 4 Low-Power Efficiency cores and supper for WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thunderbolt 4.What sets the two chips apart are the GPUs.The Intel Arc B370 GPU is a 2.4 GHz iGPU that debuted with the Intel Core Ultra 5 338H chip. With 10 Intel Xe3 GPU cores, 98 peak TOPS of INT8 AI performance, and support for DirectX 12 Ultimate, OpenGL 4.6, OpenCL 3.0, AV1 encoding, XeSS 3 upscaling, and ray tracing, among other things, it’s pretty powerful by integrated graphics standards. But Arc B390 graphics goes even further. After debuting in laptop-class chips like the Intel Core Ultra X7 368H and Core Ultra X9 388H, this 12-core iGPU supports should deliver speedier performance for gaming and other graphics work, as well as up to 122 TOPS of AI performance.
