Dindigul Superintendent of Police A. Pradeep on Tuesday said necessary steps were being taken by the police to curb drug trafficking. People could lodge complaints anonymously through the Drug Free TN mobile application, he said.The SP was addressing a press meet at the Reddiarchatram police station. Three people, including a couple were arrested by the police for possession of 56 kg of ganja.Jayapal and his wife Nandini, and Syed Kattuva Bava have been arrested in connection with the case. A case has been registered by the Reddiarchatram police. Vehicles being used in such cases were being seized, the SP said.The SP said surveillance and patrolling operations were intensified to curb drug trafficking in the district and to apprehend the offenders. Investigation is underway to determine the source of the seized ganja and to ascertain whether they were procured from outside the State.Special attention is being given to cases involving narcotics and crimes against women and children. The cases will be closely monitored. Regular vehicle checks were being conducted particularly at the areas bordering other districts, he said, adding that through foot patrol, the police were continuously raising awareness with regard to the issue among the people at the local level.The public need not hesitate to share information or lodge complaints regarding narcotics, he said and urged the public to use Drug Free T.N. mobile application. Through the mobile application anonymous complaints could be lodged and there was no need to disclose personal details such as name, address, or mobile number, the SP said.
