The Tiruvallur district police have arrested five men who allegedly indulged in synthetic drug trafficking.

Police said that based on credible information about inter-State movement of synthetic drugs, an intensified surveillance was carried out. It was revealed that a few persons were involved in operating an inter-State drug trafficking cartel, facilitating the transportation and distribution of synthetic narcotic substances like methamphetamine, MDMA, cocaine and other drugs from Bengaluru into Tamil Nadu.

After coordinated efforts, five accused persons were secured. 56 grams of methamphetamine and eight MDMA tablets (4 grams), along with other incriminating materials, were seized from their possession. The accused were identified as Santhosh, 24, Nataraj, 25, Kishoth Kumar, 24, Thavasi, 24, and Sundara Pandian, 24. A case was registered in Gummidipoondi police station under the NDPS Act, and the accused were remanded to judicial custody.

In a press release, Tiruvallur District Police Superintendent Vivekananda Shukla said so far, in the drive against synthetic drug trafficking, nearly 24 accused have been arrested and approximately 373 grams of methamphetamine, 48 MDMA Tablets (30 grams) and 2.8 grams of cocaine have been recovered in Tiruvallur district. Strict action will continue against drug cartels and their facilitators, including inter-State syndicates, trafficking narcotics into Tamil Nadu, he added.
