Sikelela Primary School
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has dismissed social media claims that a learner died after allegedly consuming contaminated biscuits, following an incident that saw five pupils from Sikelela Primary School in Crossroads, Nyanga, taken to hospital.
The department was responding to rumours that spread rapidly online after a video emerged showing several learners appearing unwell at the school on Monday.
According to information received, the learners had allegedly purchased biscuits from a vendor operating in the community before arriving at school.
Several pupils later complained of stomach pains and feeling unwell, with some reportedly vomiting. The school subsequently called emergency medical services to assess the affected learners.
