SASTRA, a Deemed to be a University, has decided to introduce five new ‘minor specialisations’ in its B.Tech courses from 2026-27 academic year.In an official release, Vice-Chancellor, S.Vaidhyasubramaniam, has said that the minor specialisations would provide wider opportunities for both Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and non-CSE students to gain expertise in certain functional domains of enterprise management.“This will hopefully arrest and address the mindless craze towards major CSE degree courses and also avoid polarised growth in technical education and contribute towards Visit Bharat 2047 in a more calibrated manner”, he claimed. The decision to introduce new minor specialisation programmes – the Artificial Intelligence, the Business and Industry Analysis, the Sustainability and Social Engineering, the Project and Supply Chain Management and the Economics and Law – was taken at the 50th Academic Council meeting. The AI minor specialisation would be offered in online mode in collaboration with IIT, Ropar using a new MOOC platform called Vibe, involving co-teaching between IIT Ropar and SASTRA, Dr.Vaidhyasubramaniam said. The Academic Council had also approved the introduction of Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme for the B.Com, BBA, BCA and B.A. (Economics and Public Policy) programmes to be offered with industry partners such as Sundaram Finance, Shriram Capital, City Union Bank, Sundaram Home, Galaxy Insurance and others, the release added.
