Young riders take to the track at Princess Vlei Eco Park in Elfindale.
What began as a community clean-up project in November 2023 has grown into one of the southern suburbs' most promising BMX initiatives.
Members of Princess Vlei BMX Club arrived at the abandoned track at Princess Vlei Eco Park in Elfindale armed with spades, rakes, and black bags to clear weeds, stones, and rubble.
The club, established in late 2023, was formed to grow BMX in the southern suburbs and create a safe space where children and adults could learn new skills and enjoy cycling.
After months of volunteer work, fundraising, and support from local businesses, parents, and the wider community, the club hosted its first open day in 2024, attracting more than 100 riders from across Cape Town and the Western Cape.
