A group of kids whose homemade bike park was flattened by the council in response to safety concerns have successfully lobbied for a new one.
During the Easter school holidays, a bunch of kids in South New Brighton, Christchurch dug, shaped and built their own bike park near Estuary Rd, complete with jumps and tracks.
But while they were at school on April 30, Christchurch City Council workers went in to remove the park.
Rupert Bool, the council’s head of parks, told Stuff the structures were removed following complaints about safety, and some of the “holes presented an immediate safety hazard”.
“Staff filled in some holes and removed some pallets, a couch and a table.”
