Teacher graduate Phaphama Ngalimani turned to carpentry to provide for his daughter and has built a flourishing career, one he says he would choose over teaching today.
Teaching graduate Phaphama Ngalimani, who became a father to a baby girl in 2022 while still studying and started doing carpentry work to be able to support his child, says he would reject a teaching job if one was offered to him today because his business is doing well.
Ngalimani, hails from Tlokeng, formerly known as Mount Fletcher in the Eastern Cape, but now lives in Kraaifontein, Cape Town.
He says he no longer sees himself returning to the classroom.
"If I was offered a permanent teaching post today, I would reject it," he said.
