Every year, thousands of visitors head to Hermanus in the hope of spotting these gentle giants as they migrate to the warmer waters of the Cape to breed and calve.

Hermanus is about to become even easier to visit this winter as City Sightseeing South Africa launches a new guided day tour to one of the country's most-loved coastal destinations during whale season.

Starting from 2 July, travellers will be able to join the new Hermanus Explorer Tour, which will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Cape Town.

The launch comes just as southern right whales begin returning to the Western Cape coastline, marking the start of one of South Africa's most spectacular natural events.

For many South Africans, winter in the Western Cape means one thing: whale watching.
