The herbal supplement Ashwagandha, derived from a small flowering shrub with yellow blooms, has surged in popularity among people seeking relief from stress, anxiety, insomnia and other mental health challenges. A medical expert cautions against excessive use of the herbal supplement.
Growing work-related stress, relationship problems, unemployment, poverty and other daily challenges are among the factors driving increasing numbers of people to use Ashwagandha, a popular herbal supplement widely marketed for its stress-relieving properties.
The non-stimulant herbal product has gained popularity among people seeking relief from anxiety, mental strain and other emotional pressures. Many users have praised its perceived benefits in helping them cope with stressful situations and improve their overall sense of wellbeing.
However, medical doctor, public health leader and global keynote speaker Dr Lethukwenama Letsoalo has cautioned that excessive use of Ashwagandha may have harmful effects on both physical and mental health.
In videos posted on her YouTube channel, Dr Letsoalo said her research found that the plant is grown in several countries, particularly India, where it is most widely cultivated.
