An Additional Registrar of the Madras High Court and a private company employee were killed after a lorry carrying ration supplies rammed multiple two-wheelers near Basin Bridge on Monday morning.The deceased were identified as Additional Registrar at the Madras High Court N. Muralidharan, 56, of Mogappair, and Gowtham, 60, of Avadi, who worked for a private company.The accident occurred around 9.30 a.m. at the Moolakothalam junction on Tiruvottiyur High Road when several vehicles were waiting at a traffic signal. According to the police, the lorry allegedly went out of control and crashed into three motorcycles ahead of it.Muralidharan and Gowtham were trapped under the vehicle and died on the spot. Two others, Rajeswari, 45, an assistant to the Registrar at the Madras High Court, and Balakrishnan, 62, of Vyasarpadi, sustained injuries in the accident. They were admitted to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital and are undergoing treatment.The lorry driver, Rajkumar, 46, of Koyambedu, was arrested. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the vehicle may have suffered brake failure.The Washermenpet Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW) has registered a case and is investigating whether the crash was caused by a mechanical fault or the driver’s negligence.The accident led to heavy traffic congestion at the Moolakothalam junction, with traffic movement affected for nearly three hours.
