CNN’s resident polling expert trashed President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims that Democrats are stealing votes from Republicans in the Los Angeles mayoral race — calling it the “dumbest conspiracy theory I’ve ever heard.” Trump claimed Sunday that the Republican candidates are “being cheated” after Nithya Raman, a Democrat, pulled ahead of Republican and former reality TV star Spencer Pratt in the polls. Both candidates are looking to challenge incumbent Karen Bass, in a November runoff. “Has anybody been watching the CROOKED Election going on in California. Two great Republican Candidates are being cheated, and so is America, if the Dumocrats are able to fulfill their mission, great trouble and consternation will follow. Watch this ‘Election’ closely!!!” Trump ranted on Truth Social. CNN’s chief data analyst, Harry Enten, called Trump’s claims “the dumbest conspiracy theory I’ve ever heard.”“The democratic establishment and Karen Bass wanted Spencer Pratt in the runoff. They don’t want any part to do with Nithya Raman,” Enten exclaimed as he pulled up polling numbers that showed Bass would have won over Pratt by 18 points. CNN polling guru Harry Enten slammed President Donald Trump’s claims that the Los Angeles mayoral race was rigged, calling it the ‘dumbest conspiracy theory’ (CNN)“Bass would have crushed Pratt by 18 points. That’s what the polling showed. Look at how she does against Nithya Raman. On the other hand, Raman is ahead by four points. Bass has a real race on her hands, if, in fact, Raman is the one who advances. And of course, the Democratic establishment is backing Karen Bass, but versus Spencer Pratt, she was crushing him. She wanted to face Pratt,” Enten said. “She wanted nothing to do with Raman.” “And that’s why these conspiracy theories — simply put — make no sense, people,” he added. Bass’ favorability numbers are also considerably lower than Raman’s. “Raman is actually decently liked by LA city voters,” Enten exclaimed, showing that Raman has +5 on net favorability while Bass is at -22 and Pratt is at -32. Enten claimed that LA Mayor Karen Bass likely wanted to face off with Spencer Pratt, since the city is mostly made up of Democrats and it would’ve been an easier race to win (Reuters)“Karen Bass doesn’t want to face Nithya Raman. She’d love to face Spencer Pratt because, simply put, she’s managed to find someone more unpopular than she is and she’s quite unpopular,” Enten said. Enten and co-host John Berman discussed Trump’s high hopes for Pratt to win a spot in the runoff — even though he likely has no sway amongst voters since he is considered very unpopular amongst LA residents. “The president of the United States is such a drain on Spencer Pratt,” Enten said. “Trump’s net approval rating in the city of Los Angeles is about 55 points underwater.” Enten also noted that only 15 percent of registered voters within the city are Republicans. “Spencer Pratt was facing a mountain in order to win,” Enten said.
