A community in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Egbelu Obube Autonomous Community, has accused state government officials and security operatives of renewed attempts to take over its ancestral land despite an ongoing court case and a prior panel report allegedly declaring the earlier acquisition illegal.

Honourable Reginald Kelechi Opara, who spoke in an exclusive interview with SaharaReporters, alleged that about 100 hectares of land belonging to Ugakwoche Village were forcefully taken in 2017 under the administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha and handed over to the Nigerian Air Force.

“In 2017, the Imo State government under the administration of Rochas Okorocha forcefully took our land, UGAKWOCHE VILLAGE IN EGBELU OBUBE AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY IN OWERRI NORTH LGA OF IMO STATE, of about 100 hectares without compensation and gave it to the Nigeria Air Force,” he said.
